Purpose of the Text

What is the purpose of the text?
Every text has a purpose to make  the reader know the objective or aim of the text. There are many kinds of genre of the texts. They are narrative text , recount text, report text,  descriptive text, procedure text,  spoof, anecdote, discussion of the text, etc. For the many genres, there are many different purposes of the text.

A text has purposed to make a reader catches the aim of the text.There are many written text that is not following the purpose of the text. Because of without purpose, it can be called bad text. The reader will be confused in reading this text.  And actually, it can make the reader difficult searching the information of the text.  The text will be ambiguous that has many different information.

The following description, there are the purposes of the text;

The purpose of narrative text        : to entertain or amuse the readers or listeners.
The purpose of recount  text        : to retell the past event or past experience in chronological sequence.
The purpose of report text             : to describe something in general.
The purpose of  descriptive          : to describe a particular thing. It can be places, things, or person.
The purpose of  procedure            : to explain / tell how to make something, to explain the way or process making  and using something or certain devices.
The purpose of  news item            : to inform the readers or listeners of the events in details, for example  of something that was happened such as accidents or incident.
The purpose of  explanation           :   to explain the readers to understand the processes of something happen, such as the cultural phenomena or social, etc.
The purpose of  analytical exposition :   to put forward a viewpoint about something.
The purpose of  hortatory exposition :   to persuade the readers to agree with the point of view from writer.
The purpose of  discussion                 : to give arguments or opinions from issue and point of views.
 The purpose of  announcement          : to announce or give a formal written notice of certain events or activity
The purpose of  letter                            : to give information about something or to use communication tools through written symbols
The purpose of advertisement            : to advertise a product or to promote an idea to persuade the reader to buy or use the products.


The purpose  of the text is very important in the text. If there is a text that is not mentioned the kind of the text, and we will know the name of the text based of the contents that is followed by the purpose. Example, Abi writes a story about their experience when He went to Lombok last holiday,  suddenly the teacher asked about the type of the text. So that, from reading Abi's story other students could answer that is a recount text because Abi told about his experience in the past. As we know that the purpose of recount text is retell the past event or past experience in chronological sequence.

Well... The texts have their own purposes, they are not only giving information, but also give the purpose  to the reader. The written text are not just the line of words or phrase, it includes the meaning that makes the reader take the conclusion.

Materi There is/are (there + be) dan Contohnya

In English, we use “there is” or “there are” to show something that we can see. Do you know that “there is” or “there are” has different function?
“There is” is used with countable and uncountable nouns. The amount of noun is one thing or the nouns that are uncountable.
              Example: 
·                 There is a pen in the box.
·                 There is a man on the street.
·                 There is water in my bowl.
·                 There is a teacher in the office.
·                 There is money on the table.

“There are” is used with plural and countable nouns. We know the sum of the nouns, such as, more than one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and many more.
Example:
·                 There are some books on my bookshelf.
·                 There are many children in the park.
·                 There are five students in the class.
·                 There are many cars in the parking area.
·                 There are some flowers in the garden.

The formula or patterns ‘There is’ or ‘there are’


  •        Positive Form
              There + be
       Example               : There is a child in the play ground. 
  •       Negative Form
              There + be + not
       Example               : There is not  a child in the play ground.
  •        Interrogative form
           Be + there +  . . . ?
      Example               : Is there a child in the play ground?

**Rule "be":
 “Be” form is used in certain time and the noun is followed.
Example:
·         We used “be”  in present form, (am, are, is).
·         We used “be”  in past form  (was, were).

Example:
  •    There is a girl in the park every morning.
  •   There was a beautiful girl in the hotel last night.
  •   There are three cows in the field every day.
  •   There were many children in the canteen yesterday.
  •  There have been several dance competitions since I worked here.

Rules
Using ‘There is’ for one Item
 (countable noun)
·         There is a man in the shop.
·         There is a student in the class.
·         There is a book on the table.
Using ‘There is’ for group nouns
(un-countable noun)
·         There is a milk on the ground.
·         There is a coffee on the pan.
·         There is a water on my cup.
Using ‘There are  for  more than one Item  or many items (plural nouns)
·         There are many women on the supermarket.
·         There are seventeen students in the yard.
·         There are some pencils on the bag.
