   Today is Sunday. Each family member in Wijaya's house is busy with their activities. Mr. Wijaya is reading a newspaper in front of the house. In the kitchen, Mrs. Wijaya is cooking lunch. The maid, Inah, is cleaning the house. 
    The eldest son, Bima, is washing his motorcycle in the yard. Bima's sister, Ratih, is in her bedroom. She is listening to her favorite songs. Rian, the youngest son, is playing with a toy car in the living room. In the garden, the Wijaya's other daughter, Maya, is watering the plants. Miami, their little cat, is in the backyard drinking a bowl of milk, and Bobi, their parakeet, is loud noise.  
Mr. Hadi the neighbor, is cutting the grass using a lawn mower.

What is a Text in English?




   a.  Definition

As we know that text is something that can be read. Generally, a text is a combination of paragraphs that represents an extended unit of speech. We create a written or spoken language  to explain a topics for particular  purpose.


     b.     Kinds of Text

There are many kinds of text. Text can be divided into different text types. Each text types has a typical structure that can be recognized by users of our language system. Text types are used by speakers and writers to communicate for a particular purpose.  

There are the kinds of genre of the text:
1.      Narrative Text
2.      Recount Text
3.      Discussion Text
4.      Procedure Text
5.      Analytical Exposition  Text
6.      Hortatory Exposition Text
7.      Descriptive Text
8.      Report Text
9.      Spoof Text
10.  Anecdote
11.  News Items
12.  Review Text
13.  Explanation Text

What is Spoof Text?



Spoof is a text which tells factual story, happened in the past time with unpredictable and funny ending. Spoof text is very similar to recount text. Both spoof and recount tell about the past event with chronological order. Its purpose is to amuse reader with funny story. The story mostly is ended with an unpredictable event. The different is Spoof Text has “twist” in the end of the story.
The social function is to entertain the readers with an humorous story
Generic Structure of Spoof:
1. Orientation (introduction of the participant of the story , where it happen and when. By giving the orientation, reader will recognize the story)
2. Events (tells about the chronological of the story. Several events are explored in chronological way which able to arrange the story read nicely.)

  • - …etc…
3. Twist (an unpredictable plot in the end of the story which amuse the reader. Readers even did not predict before that it would be)
Language Feature of Spoof
1. Focusing on people, animals or certain things
2. Using action verb; ate, ran, etc
3. Using adverb of time and place
4. Told in chronological order.
Example 1:
Penguin in the Park
           Once a man was walking in a park when he across a penguin. He took it to a policeman and said; “What should I do?” The policeman replied; “Take it to the zoo!”.

Tag Questions
Affirmative Sentence and  Negative Tags
·         She is a journalist, isn’t she?
·         I was very sick, wasn’t I ?
·         We can sing dangdut, can’t we ?
·         You live in Paris, don’t you ?
·         The published her book, didn’t they ?
·         I have told you, haven’t I ?
Negative Sentences and Positive Tags.
·         you aren’s a teacher, are you ?
·         they weren’t there yesterday, were they ?

·         he doesn’t like the article, does he ?

·         the vocalist hasn’t come, has he?
Conditional Sentences
     You use the kind of conditional sentence when you are talking about a prediction for the future. Examples :
1.     If he has time, he will come.
He will come if he has time.
2.    I will not go if you don’t go.
If you don’t go, i will not go.
3.    Will she come if I invite her ?
Yes, she will.
She will come if you invite her.
Writing Personal Letter
            A personal letter is an informal written message between friends, relatives, and acquintances. Ussually, a personal letter is about personal fellings, thoughts, or experiences, which are meant to be read by a specific person.
The features of a personal letter :
·         The date.
·         Receiver’s  address.
·         An opening greeting or salutation, usually “Dear...”.
·         A sign off or farewell, for example : “Yours sincerely”, “Best regards”,”Best wishes”, or “Cheers”.
·         Your signature to close the letter.
·         The use of informal  language to express your fellings, thoughts, and experience.
Punctuations :
·         The dates are always in the order of day, month and year.
Commas are used after the city’s name in front of the date.
e.g. Jakarta, 11 November 2011
  Makassar, 28 Agustus 2011
·         We also use commas after greetings and farewells.
e.g. Dear Sari,
  Dear Dameria,
  Yours sincerely,
  Best regards,
  Always,
  Love,
·         We use commas to separate the different parts of the address which are written in order.
e.g. Jalan RS. Fatmawati 3, Pondok Labu, Jakarta Selatan
Jalan Gatot Subroto 10, Samarinda, kalimantan Timur.
