“There is” is used with countable and uncountable nouns. The
amount of noun is one thing or the nouns that are uncountable.
Example:

is a pen in the box.

is money on the table.
“There are” is used with plural and countable nouns. We
know the sum of the nouns, such as, more than one, two, three, four, five, six,
seven, and many more.
